The John Caudwell Blaze Your Own Trail Award
The John Caudwell Blaze Your Own Trail Award will celebrate the very spirit of entrepreneurship and the support of on the job training initiatives.
John Caudwell began his career as an apprentice working at the Michelin Tyres factory in Stoke-on-Trent. This grounding in a successful multi-national company provided some of the fundamental practical knowhow and the inspiration to later become one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs.
As a passionate advocate for alternative routes into employment and the encouragement of entrepreneurship in UK business, John has teamed up with the Great British Entrepreneur Awards to recognise businesses that are inspiring and influencing people to climb the career ladder.
We’re looking for businesses that can show a commitment and passion to support non-graduates into employment, with demonstrable personal skill development and opportunities for career progression. Schemes may include (but are not limited to); apprenticeships, kick-start placements, work experience, training & volunteering.
This category will also celebrate businesses who recognise the barriers to employment that some people face and their work to proactively remove them. Work may include efforts to improve opportunities for people inhibited because of their health/disability, education, race, gender or age.
Remember, the Great British Entrepreneur Awards celebrate and champion the stories of entrepreneurs. True entrepreneurs are as much about their story as they are about their balance sheet. The Great British Entrepreneur Awards celebrate the truly inspiring entrepreneurs who are the agents of positive change in our country.

The Great British Entrepreneur Awards has a stellar panel of judges across multiple sectors.
Each judge is allocated categories that match their areas of expertise. Your entry will be judged based on answers to the four qualitative questions on the entry form along with supporting documents uploaded.
The judges will mark each question giving a rating out of 10 whilst giving comments to justify their scoring.
Based on the ethos that these awards celebrate the story of the entrepreneur and not just the balance sheet, there is an element of subjectivity around judging. Applicants should make sure they really use the space to highlight the key milestones within their journey.
In previous years, judges have scored applications highly that shine a light on innovation, challenges overcome, adversity, vision, passion and tenacity.
Judges will review applications independently, however judges within a category may also collaborate with one another, particularly if the scoring is close.
