Entrepreneurs from across the Midlands came together in Birmingham last night (Tuesday) to celebrate their success at the regional gala final of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
Now in its sixth year, the NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards celebrates the hard work and inspiring stories of entrepreneurs in the UK.
Juliet and Alan Barratt, founders of sports nutrition brand, Grenade, enjoyed a hugely successful night, winning the Great British Entrepreneur of the Year and Scale-Up Entrepreneur of the Year awards for the region.
The married couple launched the company in 2010 as a sports supplement brand for strong and lean people, rather than bodybuilders, and has since branched out to convenience stores for those looking to be a bit more health conscious.
Francesca James, co-founder of the NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards, said: “Juliet and Alan have built and scaled an incredible brand over the past eight years, first mastering the dedicated fitness market before making it attractive to those who aren’t obsessed with fitness.”
“Having been valued at £72 million in 2017, and witnessing nearly 50% growth in the past year, we’re extremely excited to see where Juliet and Alan take Grenade next.”
Darren Boocock, Partner for Corporate Finance Advisory at Deloitte, who judged Juliet and Alan’s application, said: “Juliet and Alan have a really great story. Grenade is a very strong brand with really exciting prospects. It is also in a really interesting segment of the market.”
Winners were crowned across 12 categories in total including Family Business, Entrepreneurs’ Team and Entrepreneurial Spirit.
Francesca James added: “2018 has been a record year for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the number of entries we received. But the quality of applications has been above and beyond what we’ve seen in previous years.
“Just getting to the gala final as a finalist is a huge achievement given the competition on show, so to walk away with a trophy in your hand deserves huge congratulations.”
Gordon Merrylees, Head of Entrepreneurship for NatWest, said: “We are incredibly proud to support these important awards again in 2018. The number and calibre of entries this year proves that entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the Midlands.
“I want to extend my huge congratulations to all the winners, and hope that their businesses continue to grow in the future.”
