Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2015 entries open!

Entries are now open for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2015, the annual event celebrating entrepreneurship in the UK.

Hailed as the benchmark for entrepreneurial success in Britain, this year’s Great British Entrepreneur Awards, in association with NatWest, has 16 categories aimed at entrepreneurs across the spectrum of size and scale and across multiple industries, including: Digital Entrepreneur of the Year, International Trade Entrepreneur of the Year, Food and Drink Entrepreneur of the Year, Social Enterprise Entrepreneur of the Year (both in the UK and Internationally), Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year.

Simon Burton, founder of the Great British Entrepreneur of Awards, said: “We witness how entrepreneurs are driving forward in the face of a challenging, fast-evolving business environment. Using innovative solutions and breaking existing paradigms entrepreneurs are a driving force in the economy. Their contributions to their industries and entrepreneurialism in the UK deserve to be recognised.

“Last year’s Awards saw 65 entrepreneurs being recognised for their achievements. This year we are hoping to hear even more entrepreneurial success stories and celebrate their triumphs.”

Since the inaugural Awards, a number of prominent entrepreneurs have been awarded gongs for their accomplishments, including:
• Julie Deane, Cambridge Satchel Company
• Rowan Gormley, Naked Wines
• Nish and Sach Kukadia, SecretSales.com
• Sara Davies, Crafter’s Companion
• Darren Westlake, Crowdcube

James Watt, the Captain of BrewDog, won three Awards at the 2014 ceremony, including the Grand Prix accolade of Great British Entrepreneur of the Year.

After the ceremony, James said: “It’s a huge honour and I am super excited to receive these three awards! It seems like just yesterday, Martin and I started with a small bank loan, brewing in our garage. Our mission has always been and always will be to make people as passionate about great craft beer as we are. We are so excited for the future and have an amazing team at BrewDog who all work unbelievably hard. Thank you so much for the awards and recognition.”

The closing deadline for entries is 5pm Friday 31 July, with the nominees, those passing the first stage of judging, being announced in August. The Finalists, those who pass the second stage of judging and will be at the Awards Ceremony, will be notified in early October. The Awards campaign will culminate in a black-tie Ceremony in November during Global Entrepreneurship Week.

To enter, entrepreneurs need to fill out the entry form on the Great British Entrepreneur Awards website.

10 reasons to enter the Great British Entrepreneur Awards

So, you’ve read this far and the Great British Entrepreneur Awards are beginning to sound interesting. It’s an impressive list of judges, the Awards Ceremony last year looked like a great place to network and a trophy will look quite nice on your office shelf, but you still need a bit more convincing.

Well, here are 10 reasons about why you should enter….

1 – It’s free to enter

It costs you absolutely nothing to enter, other than your time to write the entry. Further to this, the only cost to you for the entire process is to attend the Awards itself — which we keep as close to cost as possible.

2 – We’re making the entry form as simple as possible

We are refining our questions and making the entry forms as simple and straightforward to answer.

3 – You will have at least three months to enter (if not more!)

We’ll make sure you have plenty of time to plan, revise, review and edit your entry to make sure you get it looking exactly how you want it

4 – There is an additional FREE event in October

All of the nominee’s (the entrants who pass the first stage of judging) are invited to the Nominees’ VIP Evening, hosted by NatWest. See here for a video of last year’s event

5 – It’s a fantastic PR story if you are Shortlisted

And it’s an additional PR story if you win!

6 – The judges

I mentioned them earlier, but I feel I need to point out that this is an opportunity to not only present your work as an entrepreneur to them, but also be in the same room with some very inspiring business figures.

7 – The other nominee’s, shortlisted entrants and winners

One of the key elements we receive praise on is the amount of networking we facilitate. With two events to meet and greet likeminded entrepreneurs, the only way to be in the room is to enter in the first place.

8 – The Sponsors and Partners

We’ve got an incredible line-up of sponsors and partners who are hand-picked because of their dedication to growing entrepreneurial businesses.

9 – Your industry peers

Awards are a great way to prove you are a contender to your industry peers. We ensure that all winners and finalists receive appropriate logos to use on any marketing materials. What’s more, if you’re a nominee we give you a badge too — because we’re nice like that.

10 – The Awards Ceremony

If nothing else, the Awards are a chance to celebrate and congratulate yourself and your team on the hard work you have done over the last year. With the Awards Ceremony taking place in November, it will be the ideal opportunity to treat your team and it’ll be even better if you pick up an accolade too.
